Al-Quseir

Al-Quseir, a city in Egypt, approximately 5000 year old, lies along the Red Sea. Its ancient name was Leucus Limen. It is located only 138 km south of Hurghada, 139 km north of Marsa Alam and 73 km from Marsa Alam International Airport.
It was in Quseir where Queen Hatshepsut set off to an expedition to the mystical African land of Punt, as one can see in the reliefs in Deir El-Bahari Temple in Luxor. The legend says that she returned with two live panthers and 31 incense trees. The fortress of Sultan Selim, still standing in the center of the town shows, that the city was of strategic importance in the 16th century as it was a center of the trade route for spices from India to Britain and Pilgrims were leaving from there to Mecca.
Today Al Quseir is transformed into a luxurious touristic but environmental aware destination. It is well known for its quiet resorts with sandy beaches, unspoiled bays and mangrove swamps. It is the ideal place for diving and snorkeling.
Other tourist attractions seen there are historical buildings from the time of the French and British occupation, its colorful bazaars and of course its Pharaonic and Roman sites.
